BLM Seeks Comment on Emission Plan
Friday, November 11, 2022

The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on an updated environmental assessment related to its analysis of greenhouse gas emissions that may result from development of 3,600 oil and gas leases issued in North Dakota and six other states.

The leases, which span more than 3.4 million acres, were sold between February 2015 and December 2020. The supplemental analysis is in response to litigation resulting in numerous court rulings and settlements. The BLM analysis attempts to ensure consistency with recent court rulings and other administrative decision.

The environmental analysis looks at the development activity that would result in greenhouse gas emissions due to well development and production operations, as well as the end-use of the petroleum products produced from oil and gas leases.
