Oil and gas jobs are on the rise in the Bakken

The long-term outlook for jobs is positive throughout North Dakota and especially in Region 1, which includes Williams County.

Job Service North Dakota’s Labor Market Information Center completed statewide and regional long-term employment projections through 2031. The 2023 results cover more than 700 occupations.

Most of the job growth projected for ND over the next decade is in healthcare, construction and extraction, transportation and material moving.

"Career options are endless and ever changing," ND Workforce Center Manager Paula Lankford said. "My recommendation to anyone is to continuously seek ways to grow your skills and expand your knowledge base."

The report offers good news for younger people because the majority of demand, according to the ND Labor Market Information Center, is for high school graduates with little or no experience. Unfortunately, that sometimes translates into lower wages — except in the oil and gas industry.

As one Williston State College (WSC) instructor noted, it's important for high school graduates who want long-term, rewarding careers to consider expanding their education and technical knowledge to avoid future obsolescence.
