US Energy secretary to visit Minot Tuesday
Friday, August 28, 2020

Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer on Thursday announced they will host U.S. Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette in Minot on Tuesday, Sep. 1.

The senators and secretary will review ongoing efforts to modernize the nation's nuclear forces, including the dual nuclear missions at Minot Air Force Base, and hold roundtable discussions with the state's electric utilities and coal, oil, and natural gas producers.

"North Dakota is a global energy powerhouse, but our producers are up against some significant challenges, which makes Secretary Brouillette's visit timely," said Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the Defense and Energy and Water Development Appropriations Committees. "We appreciate this opportunity to meet directly with the secretary and our local energy producers to discuss opportunities to support our coal, oil and gas industries, which are central to our economy, quality of life and national security. At the same time, the Department of Energy provides the nuclear weapons carried on the B-52s and ICBMS (intercontinental ballistic missiles) at Minot Air Force Base, and we look forward to reviewing efforts to modernize our nuclear deterrent with the secretary and leaders at the base."

"Dan is a longtime friend and an excellent Energy secretary who handles many important North Dakota issues, working not only with our energy producers, but also overseeing our nuclear assets like those housed at Minot Air Force Base," said Cramer, a Senate Armed Services Committee member. "His visit represents another example of how my and Senator Hoeven's complementary committee assignments - coupled with active and exceptional leaders of the Trump Administration like Dan - allow North Dakota to punch above its weight class. We look forward to hosting his visit to the base and facilitating a conversation with him and our energy leaders."
